چکیده

Lamb waves are often used in ultrasonic applications for non-destructive testing of large constructions. The difficulty in the analysis of Lamb waves is their dispersive characteristics, especially their frequency dependent phase and group velocities. This article focuses on the separation of the first symmetric mode S0 and the first asymmetric mode A0 and the reliable estimation of their group velocities. Starting from the analysis of the received ultrasonic signals at different distances from the source, three methods were implemented to estimate the group velocity. The best results were obtained by performing the wavelet transform on these signals and using the similarity of the coefficient lines for different distances between the transmitter and the receiver. The group velocity estimation was used to visualise the segment of the dispersion curve of a narrowband signal. The wavelet transform allowed taking a closer look to the particular mode of guided waves in the time and frequency space.

Application of Wavelet Transform as a Signal Processing Method for Defect Detection using Lamb Waves: Experimental Verification

A Lamb wave-based crack detection method for aluminum plates health monitoring is developed in this paper. Piezoelectric disks are employed to actuate and capture the Lamb wave signals. The position of crack is assumed to be aligned with the sensor and actuator.  Extraction of high quality experimental results of lamb wave propagation in a plate-like structure is considerably complicated due to...

A New Method for Multisensor Data Fusion Based on Wavelet Transform in a Chemical Plant

This paper presents a new multi-sensor data fusion method based on the combination of wavelet transform (WT) and extended Kalman filter (EKF). Input data are first filtered by a wavelet transform via Daubechies wavelet “db4” functions and the filtered data are then fused based on variance weights in terms of minimum mean square error. The fused data are finally treated by extended Kalman filter...

A study of the Spectral Behavior of Laser-generated Lamb Waves using Wavelet Transforms

This paper deals with the study of the spectral components of Lamb waves generated in thin aluminium plate using pulsed Nd-YAG laser and detected using a He-Ne Laser Heterodyne interferometer. Laser generation of Lamb waves leads to simultaneous generation of various frequency component as well as multiple Lamb wave modes. The Lamb wave signals are successfully and comprehensively analyzed usin...

Self Focusing of 2D Arrays for SHM of Plate-Like Structures Using Time Reversal Operator

Lamb waves have shown a great potential in structural health monitoring (SHM) of thin plates that are frequently used in engineering structures. Dense transducer networks or active ultrasonic arrays can be employed to generate and receive Lamb waves. Active arrays, however, enable beam steering and can work as spatial filters enabling assessment of large plate areas from a single fixed position...

Channel Effect Compensation in OFDM System under Short CP Length Using Adaptive Filter in Wavelet Transform Domain

Channel estimation in communication systems is one of the most important issues that can reduce the error rate of sending and receiving information as much as possible. In this regard, estimation of OFDM-based wireless channels using known sub-carriers as pilot is of particular importance in frequency domain. In this paper, channel estimation under short cyclic prefix (CP) in OFDM system is con...
